At Saint Lawrence Martyr, children normally prepare for their First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in 2nd grade and Confirmation in the 9th grade. The Archdiocese of Baltimore requires that all students be enrolled in a Catholic school or religious education program the year priorto the sacramental preparation year. For example, if your child is to make First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the 2nd grade, they must have completed 1st grade in a Catholic school or a parish religious education program.
Should you have any questions, please call the Coordinator for Religious Education at 410-510-5073 or send an email to cre@saintlawrencemartyr.org.
Confirmation If your child
needs Confirmation, they must have received the Sacraments of Baptism and First Holy Communion; completion of 8th grade in a Catholic school or parish religious education program.
All high school freshmen from St. Lawrence Martyr are joining our pastorate Parish this year at Resurrection of Our Lord in Laurel. Confirmation preparation is a two-year process. Registration is now open, for more information please call Resurrection's Parish Office at 410-792-7982

RCIA adapted for children and teens is a process for children, ages 8-17, who have not been baptized and want to join the Catholic Church. The children will receive the Sacraments of Initiation, which are Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil, when they are considered prepared.
During this process, the children will receive a better understanding of what it means to know and love God. The Ten Commandments will be introduced. The children will have a better understanding of what sin means and learn how to live their lives according to God's commandments. They will also learn about what it means to be Catholic; how to develop their relationship with God; and to identify themselves as children of God. The importance of attending weekly Mass will be stressed. Learning how to use the Bible; reading Old and New Testament stories; and learning the parts of the Mass will be covered in their lessons.
Each student will need to choose a sponsor, who will support the child in his/her Catholic journey. The sponsor must be a baptized and confirmed Catholic, who is at least 16 year of age and is in good standing with the Catholic Church.
Thank you, and we look forward to assisting you with your child's formation in the Catholic faith.
